Stumps generally refer to guys who have been cut down all their lives, but no matter what you do to them, they are still around and in our case putting out a musical product that is on par with anyone currently playing at the Holiday Inn (Airport).  This is a quintet of seasoned musicians known throughout many honky tonks and back yards of Southeast Louisiana.

Why Stumps?  Why not.

The band really got rolling during the days following Katrina.
Clean up, waiting for FEMA debris removal, and heavy use of chainsaws
In our small town, an officially designated “Tree City”,
There were plenty of uprooted trees for visual interest and unusual texture,
And lots of sawed off trunks.
Much like the members of the band,
Varied shapes and sizes, unruly, at least partially uprooted,
And calling out to be either ground into dust, sat upon,
Or simply here to add  to the strange new landscape of Louisiana.
Time passed, and the band sawed away at their music.
During Gustav the band was powered by generators for several nights
Of hurricane parties, filling the neighborhood with electricity
And fueling Abita with their own style of energy.
Just like a trash tree that springs up in the yard,
The Abita Stumps will grow on you.
